Arts & Scraps

Arts & Scraps uses recycled materials to engage children and their families in hands-on art experiences. Programs are held at the organization’s facility and in
communities throughout Southeast Michigan with an emphasis in STEM (science, technology, engineering, math) education. The group provides a community space for creating and operate a public store that sells recycled materials at low cost to assist all economic levels.

PROJECT AWARDED

Brightmoor Art Kits: Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, families are spending more time at home with limited – if any – access to formal art instruction. Programs that previously ran in schools, community centers and similar venues have been closed due to social distancing measures. Additionally, restrictions on schools (including virtual learning mandates and restrictions on in-person visitors and field trips) means that traditional art programs may or may not run as planned in 2020. As a result, Arts & Scraps has partnered with Mint Artist Guild and Brilliant Detroit to ensure families have access to art supplies while at home.
