PROJECTS AWARDED
Northrop Head Start Facility – Renovation Phase 3: The Fisher Foundation provided a grant to DCI in November of 2017 to assist in developing a plan to transform a former elementary school on Northrop Street in Detroit to better meet the needs of the children served through Head Start and Great Start. While the building was in good shape overall, it was not constructed for the care and education of infants, toddlers and preschoolers. An additional grant in 2020 will fund construction and project management costs for renovation of the Northrop Early Childhood Education Campus, serving Brightmoor infants, toddlers and preschoolers. The design is based in best practice models for early care and education.
Brightmoor Childcare Quality Initiative (BQI): This grant supports early childcare providers in the Brightmoor community in an effort to develop, strengthen and maintain school readiness skills for young children birth to five.
Brightmoor Childcare Scholarships: Through a series of annual grants, childcare providers are supported in the form of childcare scholarships that allow young children in Brightmoor to attend high-quality childcare in their own neighborhood.
Fund Development Capacity Building: Capacity support will allow DCI to engage external consultants to revisit the organization’s strategy to enhance their sustainability, and further develop their fundraising efforts and board.
