Gleaners Community Food Bank
Gleaners Community Food Bank, with broad community support, fights hunger in southeastern Michigan. In collaboration with member agencies, the Feeding America network, and other partners, Gleaner’s provides millions of pounds of donated and purchased food to people in need. Gleaners has successfully delivered high-quality food to Brightmoor families since 2009, in partnership with a community leadership collaboration known as Brightmoor Connection. This is a group of seven grassroots organizations in the neighborhood and is led on the ground by Reverend Roslyn Bouier. A leader in Brightmoor and the entire region, Gleaners is an exceptional force in addressing food insecurity.
PROJECT AWARDED
Brightmoor Connection Client Choice Food Pantry and Gleaners Early Childhood Food Distribution Pilot: This grant supports the continuation of basic needs services in Brightmoor, including a pantry that serves as an essential source of emergency food for Brightmoor residents, holiday outreach, and outreach to childcare providers. In addition, several new initiatives will be piloted in response to the Foundation’s work with the Detroit Food Policy Council (DPFC) and Brightmoor residents to better reach the target pregnant women, children and families.
