Why did you choose to work in philanthropy?
I am convinced that the resources needed to address the many issues communities face are available and abundant. I chose impact investing because it is an approach that allows funds to be used creatively, and funds are available to those who are unable to access capital through traditional means.
How does working in philanthropy impact you personally?
It allows me to apply my knowledge, skills, and values to the work I’m passionate about. I also get a chance to model for my kids that work can be both practical and fulfilling.
What do you admire most about your Grant Partners and Colleagues?
Grant partners do the hard work every day, serving communities and going over and above to meet so many needs- it is a true labor of love. My philanthropic colleagues don’t necessarily have it easy either, as they have to advocate for and present the best investment opportunities, all while navigating (sometimes) uncertain waters. All of this work requires love and commitment, and why I truly admire the people I am honored to partner with every day.
What advice would you give someone interested in philanthropy?
Network, find a mentor/coach, ask questions, and most importantly get involved by volunteering and making a personal commitment to a community you care about.
