Our program team tagged along with the “Say & Play With Words” staff from the National Center for Families Learning (NCFL) for a fun-filled day at the Detroit Institute of Arts (DIA).

The “Say & Play With Words” program is committed to closing the word gap in the Brightmoor and Southwest neighborhoods of Detroit. NCFL has structured this program to be highly interactive and will combine vocabulary and literacy strategies with family service learning. Together with the PNC Foundation and Skillman Foundation, $1.5 million has been committed to this program over the course of two years.

This exciting field trip was organized by NCFL staff and their partners at the DIA to demonstrate how vocabulary and literacy can be infused at cultural institutions.  Families who participated in “Say & Play With Words” programming were invited for an exclusive tour of the museum.
